I came here as a Sunday surprise from my SO. The atmosphere is fun, clean, and eclectic. The pizza is tasty, if heavy-handed at times, though freshly made - and not bad at all. The crust is crunchy and middling in thickness, but had a hard time standing up to the piled-on ingredients. We got two halves in a 14 inch crust, which may have been the issue. In our case one half was sweet pineapple, spicy jalapenos and chicken, matched with a half 'humble pie', essentially a supreme pizza. That brand is a good one. Folding the crust was difficult, an experience I'd call "scrapey", but a worthy crunch is the result. The sauce uses a lot of tomato paste, making it rich, earthy and acidic. I like spicy, and was surprised at how spicy the jalapeno chicken pie was. Deliciously not-mild. Our visit was plagued by frenzied service and lots (lots!) of kids, drinking groups of distracted parents, an arguing couple exchanging snipes loudly while discussing beers on tap, hopeful patrons looking for seats passing through. I'm saying that a lot was going on for a Sunday, friends. As an experience, it was a mixed bag, but expectations were high. Maybe we will try again on a slower night. I had my eye on the lasagna.
Get the Fat & Sassy. It will change your life. But also great pizza in a family friendly environment. Worth the drive & the wait.
Always freshly made incredibly tasty food. The pizza is excellent, but do yourself a favor and order a non pizza meal. You won't be sorry. The food is terrific and the service is usually A+.
We were at Monticello for the day, and after a bit of research decided to take the drive out of Charlottesville to Dr. Ho's Humble Pie. The place was buzzing, crowded by a variety of people, from college age kids, to families and older couples--a good sign. Although we didn't have the kids with us, we immediately noticed the magnetic boards next to the tables to keep little hands busy, and the paper plate artwork covering the walls by the bathrooms--another good sign. We shared a large pie, which came with many toppings, all of which were generous. We could've easily ordered the smaller size! The crust was nice and crispy, easily held up to a pizza full of toppings, and the apple crumble that we shared for dessert was spot on! Dr. Ho's was well worth the trip, and a great value for the price point. The pizza and the service were both excellent. We're just sad there's isn't one at home!
Great pizza and beer atmosphere. Lots of options for unique pizzas, or make your own and you can't go wrong. Absolutely worth a try if you're near Charlottesville.
